SB Energy, Nvidia in talks for investment of up to $3 billion

SB Energy in talks for Nvidia investment of up to $3 billion

SB Energy, the U.S. unit of SoftBank Group, is in talks to receive investment from Nvidia, U.S. media outlet The Information reported on the 15th U.S. time. Negotiations are ongoing, and the investment could reach as much as $3 billion, or about 480 billion yen.

Involved in Ohio plan

SB Energy develops power generation and data center businesses. In the data center construction plan for artificial intelligence (AI) in Ohio in the U.S. Midwest announced by SoftBank Group in March, it will build the power plants needed for the facility with 10 gigawatts of received power capacity.

According to people familiar with the matter, Nvidia is considering a plan to contribute half of the $3 billion when the Ohio contract is signed, and the remaining half when SB Energy conducts an initial public offering (IPO). SoftBank Group declined to comment.

IPO preparations also under way

In May, SB Energy said it had begun preparations for an IPO in the U.S. According to people familiar with the matter, it is aiming for a listing as early as September and could raise about $5 billion in the IPO.

The company also handles the 1.2-gigawatt project being advanced by SoftBank Group in southern Texas under the Stargate plan to build AI computing infrastructure across the U.S. In January, it said it had received $500 million in investment each from OpenAI and SoftBank Group.
