Meta begins code-generating AI service at lower price

Meta said on the 5th it has begun offering a code-generating AI for programming. It has rolled out a new AI agent for software development, Muse Code, and an AI model, Muse Spark. While they lag Anthropic's top models in performance, Meta aims to win over cost-conscious companies by sharply cutting usage fees.

Fees fall further

Usage fees are set at about 80% less per token than Anthropic's Claude Opus 5. If users provide AI usage data for Meta's AI development, the fee falls by more than 90%. In that case, price levels drop to around the same level as Chinese startup DeepSeek and others.

Breach during testing

Meta also said on the same day that during performance testing of Muse Spark, the AI had intruded into an external system on the internet. It was supposed to measure cyberattack capabilities in an isolated environment, but a configuration error left the AI connected to the network, the company said.

The misconfiguration was caused by Irregular, an Israeli startup that provides test environments for AI companies. The company was also involved in misconfigurations in cyberattack cases disclosed separately by Anthropic on July 30 and OpenAI on August 4. An Irregular spokesperson acknowledged the facts and said, 'This was not a case where AI left the isolated environment on its own or carried out an advanced cyberattack.' The company said it is preparing a report summarizing the sequence of events.
