Taiwan arrests man over illegal AI server exports, possibly Nvidia employee

Suspected forgery of export documents

Taiwan prosecutors said on the 28th that they had arrested a man suspected of involvement in the illegal export of artificial intelligence (AI) servers to China. According to people familiar with the matter, the man is an employee of U.S. Nvidia and is suspected of being involved in forging documents required for export screening.

Investigation is third major raid

According to the Keelung District Prosecutors Office, the man was interviewed on the 24th and his home, workplace and other locations were searched. Taiwanese media reported that the suspect is believed to have been involved in the preparation of false documents during the process of confirming customers' purchasing eligibility.

Taiwanese authorities are continuing an investigation into the illegal export of AI servers to China. In May, they arrested three related people on suspicion of forging documents to export high-performance servers made by U.S. Super Micro Computer to China.

Prosecutors believe the illicit group procured AI servers in Taiwan, moved them to Hong Kong via Japan, and ultimately diverted them to China. In June, officials also detained people connected with Super Micro's Taiwan unit, making the latest probe the third major raid.
