Russian attack on Kyiv region kills 10; US-Ukraine summit set for 28th

10 killed, about 100 injured in Kyiv region

Ukraine's prosecutors said on the 24th that a Russian missile attack on the Kyiv region near the capital killed 10 people and injured about 100. Local media reported that an outdoor event showcasing defence equipment was being held at the site, and that a large crowd had gathered.

Meeting with US president set for the 28th

A White House official said on the 24th that President Trump is scheduled to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy at the White House on the 28th. Ukrainian media reported that Zelenskiy is also expected to attend the funeral in Washington of the late Senator Graham, a senior figure in the US Republican Party, on the same day.

Attacks on Russia also intensify

Zelenskiy said on the 24th on X, formerly Twitter, that Ukrainian forces had attacked a military-industrial company in Russia's central Kirov region. He said the company supplied aircraft and missile-related parts used in large-scale attacks on cities across Ukraine. The Kirov region governor said six people were killed and 26 were injured in the missile attack.

Zelenskiy also said drones had struck an oil facility in Russia about 1,350 kilometres from Ukraine. The governor of Russia's northwestern Leningrad region said on the 24th that a warehouse owned by online retailer Wildberries had come under drone attack, leaving three people injured. Wildberries said logistics centres in St Petersburg, Russia's second-largest city and in Simferopol, the main city in Crimea, the southern Ukrainian peninsula that Russia controls, were also attacked.
