Houthis claim attack on two Saudi oil tankers in Red Sea
Following declaration of naval blockade
Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi group said on the 23rd that it attacked two Saudi Arabian oil tankers in the Red Sea. The Houthis said they declared a naval blockade on Saudi vessels on the 20th and that the attack was because the two ships violated the blockade.
Concern over impact on shipping route
The Bab al-Mandab Strait off Yemen is regarded as an alternative route for crude oil shipments to the blocked Strait of Hormuz. Following the latest claim, fears have intensified that Saudi oil exports could be affected.
