Mediator proposes 10-day truce to US and Iran
In talks aimed at ending the US-Iran conflict, a mediator has proposed a 10-day halt to attacks by both sides, Reuters reported on the 20th, citing an Iranian official. The US and Iran signed a memorandum on June 17 aimed at ending the fighting, but the exchange of attacks has continued.
US attacks and reinforcements
The US military said on July 19 that it had attacked Iran for nine straight days. The New York Times reported the same day that the US military was deploying additional F-16 fighter jets, F-35 stealth fighter jets and aerial refueling aircraft to the Middle East. The move appeared to be in preparation for expanding operations.
Iran broadens attack range
Iran is showing signs of widening its targets. Until now, it had limited its attacks to US military facilities in Arab Gulf states, but it has begun broadening its targets to civilian infrastructure in Gulf countries and to locations farther from Iran, including Jordan.
