Sagawa Express says email error affected about 70,000 members
Sagawa Express said on the 18th that personal information had leaked on its member site Smart Club. A configuration error during system work caused the names and email addresses of other members to be listed in emails sent to some members. The issue affected about 70,000 people, and no misuse has been confirmed at this time.
Names and other details displayed due to email setting error
According to the company, the leak occurred around the evening of the 15th. In emails notifying customers of expected delivery dates and times, the names and email addresses of other members and numbers used to check delivery status were displayed. Addresses, credit card information and phone numbers were not leaked.
No recurrence since the 16th
The cause was a configuration error during system maintenance work. Countermeasures have already been implemented, and no similar incidents have occurred since the 16th. The company said it was not caused by a cyberattack.
The company sent explanatory and apology emails to customers who may have been affected. Sagawa Express said, 'We deeply apologise. We will work to thoroughly prevent a recurrence.'
