Apple Revises Japan iPhone Prices, Raises 17 Series
Price Changes in Japan
Apple raised prices for its iPhone smartphones in Japan on U.S. time on the 17th. The minimum price of the standard model is 142,800 yen, about 10% higher than before. The move appears to reflect rising memory prices and a weaker yen.
Price Hikes for the 17 Series
On Apple's direct-sales site, prices for several products were raised by around 10%. In the 2025 17 series, the standard model rose by 13,000 yen to 142,800 yen, while the top-end 17Pro Max climbed by 20,000 yen to 214,800 yen. The lower-priced 17e also topped 100,000 yen.
Memory Costs and Yen Weakness
It is the first time in about four years that the same model has been raised in Japan, since July 2022. Prices have not been raised in the main U.S. market. In the foreign exchange market, the yen was trading in the 162-per-dollar range, more than 10 yen weaker than a year earlier.
Following the sharp rise in memory prices, Macs and iPads raised their Japan sales prices by 20% to 30% in late June. CEO Tim Cook said in a June interview published by The Wall Street Journal that 'product price increases were unavoidable' given the surge in memory prices.
