U.S. Marines inspect tanker in Gulf of Oman as blockade continues
Inspection in Gulf of Oman
U.S. Central Command said on the 16th that U.S. Marines boarded a tanker in the Gulf of Oman and carried out an inspection. The ship's registry was not disclosed, as part of measures to block vessels entering and leaving Iran.
Iran strikes for sixth straight day
The U.S. military also said on the same day that it had carried out strikes against Iran for a sixth straight day. White House press secretary Leavitt justified the strikes, saying, 'President Donald Trump will not allow Iran to attack ships in the Strait of Hormuz without paying a price.'
Seeking to resume dialogue
Leavitt also said Trump is 'always positive toward diplomacy', signaling a willingness to resume talks. The Trump administration is urging concessions from Iran while stepping up military pressure.
It will be one month on the 17th since the United States and Iran signed an interim memorandum aimed at ending the fighting. Subsequent talks ended in failure, and the exchange of attacks between the two sides resumed. Iran declared it would close the Strait of Hormuz again, and the U.S. side also restarted measures to block vessels to and from Iran.
