Magnitude 7.3 quake off southern Mexico's Chiapas state
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), a magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck off the coast of Chiapas in southern Mexico at 8:48 a.m. on the 17th (11:48 p.m. on the 17th Japan time). The epicenter was near the coast and the depth was 15.2 kilometers.
Tsunami concerns for Mexico and Guatemala
Reuters reported that there was a risk of a tsunami reaching Mexico and neighboring Guatemala. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, there is no concern about a tsunami reaching Japan.
