U.S. Central Command carries out third straight day of Iran strikes
Retaliatory attacks intensify
U.S. Central Command said on the 13th via social media that it had begun air strikes on Iran for a third straight day. It said the aim was to reduce Iran's ability to attack civilians and commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
Reuters reported that Iran's military also said on the 13th it had attacked a U.S. military facility in Kuwait with drones. The report cited Iranian state media. It said attacks using cruise missiles targeting 'hostile' U.S. ships were also carried out.
Congress notified of resumption
A White House official said on the 13th that U.S. President Donald Trump had notified the U.S. Congress of the resumption of attacks on Iran. The official said on the 10th that the military operation against Iran had begun on the 7th, which under U.S. law means the ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran has ended and they have returned to a state of conflict.
Trump hints at continuation
Trump said in a phone appearance on a webcast by a conservative commentator on the 13th that he intended to keep attacking Iran, saying, 'We are going to hit hard tonight and tomorrow.'
Trump also said Iran's 'Pickaxe Mountain', where a nuclear development facility is reported to be buried deep underground, could also be targeted. The facility is near a uranium enrichment plant in Natanz in central Iran that was bombed in 2025, and experts say even the most powerful U.S. bunker-busting bomb would have difficulty destroying it.
Trump said of Pickaxe Mountain, 'We are watching it carefully. We have not seen any activity there,' indicating his view that Iran's nuclear development is not progressing smoothly. He then said the facility would be attacked 'relatively soon'. Regarding the memorandum on ending hostilities signed with Iran in June, he said it was 'a test to see if they could pass', adding, 'It is just a memorandum, so it does not mean much. They did not live up to the test.'
