India says one missing after Strait of Hormuz attack
10 of 11 crew rescued
India's foreign ministry said on the 12th that a Cyprus-flagged container ship was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz and that one Indian onboard was missing. The ministry condemned the continued attacks on merchant ships in the region as a 'highly worrying development'.
Search continues with US military
According to the ministry, there were 11 Indians on board the ship and 10 were rescued. The search is now being carried out with Omani authorities, but one crew member has still not been found.
Calls again for de-escalation
Before that, Iran's elite military force, the Revolutionary Guards, claimed it had attacked a vessel that tried to pass through the Strait of Hormuz on an 'unauthorized route' and had blocked the strait. According to the US military, a fire broke out on the Cyprus-flagged container ship, prompting the US military to launch strikes on Iran for the first time since the 8th.
India's foreign ministry said, 'We reiterate our call for immediate de-escalation, the conclusion of negotiations toward a diplomatic solution, and the restoration of peace and stability in the region.' It added, 'Under international law, free and unhindered navigation and commercial activity in the region's international waterways must be restored as soon as possible.'
