China notifies of ballistic missile launch, Japan asks for review
China notifies of launch
The government said on the 6th that it received a notification from China's defense ministry at 11:30 a.m. Japan time that a ballistic missile would be launched. The Japanese Embassy in China was briefed in Beijing. The zone was set south of Cape Shionomisaki in Wakayama Prefecture.
Japan government urges review
The Japanese government strongly urged China to reconsider so that ballistic missile launch drills would not threaten Japan's safety, including by passing over Japanese territory. It also expressed deep concern over the intensification of China's military activity.
The government said the relevant ministries would work together to help secure the safety of Japan's airspace and waters, and added that the Defense Ministry would maintain thorough vigilance and monitoring.
Earlier, the Japan Coast Guard said on the 5th it had received information from Chinese authorities that a zone would be designated in connection with falling space debris. Part of the area included Japan's exclusive economic zone, or EEZ. China's defense ministry reportedly gave an explanation on the matter related to the ballistic missile launch.
