Unauthorized access exposes data on 4.38 million Aflac Life customers
Details of the leaked information
Aflac Life Insurance said on the 30th that unauthorized access had led to the leak of personal information on about 4.38 million customers. For about 230,000 of them, the leaked data also included bank account information used to pay insurance premiums.
A third party illegally accessed systems including the customer-only website, leaking names, addresses, telephone numbers and bank account information. Personal information on about 40,000 agencies, including addresses and names of representatives, was also leaked.
Extent of damage and response
No unauthorized use of the personal information has been confirmed at this stage. The company has shut down part of the related systems.
