Finance Minister Katayama Signals Response to Yen's Drop to 162
Ready to respond to yen weakness
Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama said at a press conference after the cabinet meeting on the 30th that, regarding the yen falling to the 162-yen level against the dollar at one point, 'we will respond appropriately at any time as needed.'
She also said that at the recent online meeting between the Japanese and U.S. finance ministers, she had confirmed that 'decisive measures' were included. Before the press conference, the yen had been trading at its weakest against the dollar since December 1986, the lowest level in about 39 and a half years.
