US Central Command says Bahrain attack was foiled by interception
US Central Command says all Iranian retaliation attacks failed
Missiles aimed at Bahrain and Kuwait intercepted
US Central Command said on the 2nd that an attack by Iran's Revolutionary Guard targeting the US Navy's Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain had 'all failed'. According to Iranian media, the Revolutionary Guard fired missiles and drones in retaliation for US strikes.
Three missiles fired toward Bahrain were intercepted by US and Bahraini forces. Two missiles aimed at Kuwait also failed to reach their targets after breaking up in the air, with US Central Command saying the attack had ended as an 'attempted attack'.
US also strikes Iranian sites
The US side said on the same day that it attacked a Botswana-flagged vessel heading for Kharg Island, Iran's oil export hub in the Persian Gulf, and rendered it unable to sail.
In response to the Iranian attack, US Central Command said it had attacked an Iranian military ground control facility on Qeshm Island near the Strait of Hormuz under the pretext of 'self-defense'. As talks aimed at ending the fighting stall, exchanges of attacks between the United States and Iran continue.
